Against chirometers
PART ONE: A DIALOGUE
– how do i read a palm when i don’t know how to, or maybe don’t want to?
eBay is littered with kits and games that explain palmistry, but most of them are in the US and expensive to ship. I would like to get one one day.
– would it be possible to withdraw my hand? to read something else? there seem to be many options here……
in 1932 a German magazine published a series of stencils called the ‘chirometer’. the reader was asked to cut out the pages and then the holes of the stencil, and place it over the hand to conduct the reading (see above).
– would it be possible to start from scratch? to rewrite the doctrine? to foretell a different fate?
magazines often carried guides to palmistry. Charlotte Wolff wrote one for Vogue in July 1952, next to a guide to graphology. I would like to find it on eBay one day.
PART TWO: A RECONSTRUCTION made up of jumbled selection of the chirometer’s judgements. Cut it out and place it over the hand……..
There is a blank stencil of the chirometer printable here. If you would like to fill one out, please do and send it back to me, either digitally or in the post. I would also be happy to send you one out by post, if you let me know your address.
